Biography

Music, theatre and stage has followed Torbjörn through his entire life. As a five year old young man he appeared on stage with his father Britt Johan. It was an immediate success when Torbjörn impersonated on stage.

As a seven year old, Torbjörn participated in a Swedish radio program called “Snurran”, broadcasted from Falun. He told a story in his native language “Malungsmål”. He acted as an auctionist from a village in Malung called Grimsåker and the listeners loved it.

The famous TV-profile Lennart Hyland heard about the programme and phoned Torbjörn and asked if he wanted to be part of his programme “Stora famnen” recorded live at Circus in Stockholm.
What do you think the answer was? The Expressen published on the 30th of January 1958: Torbjörn made a hugh success with his monologue illustrating auction in Grimsåker in his native language. Svenska Dagbladet described him as “…the kid from the big forests with the forgotten culture treasure.

Handsome aren´t they with the Beatles-inspired look!

In his early teenage years during the sixties rock and popera, Stones and Beatles was what Torbjörn wanted to play and he and some friends at school started a band called Skintones.

The band became very popular and played even as far away as in Norway. The newspapers wrote about them as the youngest pop-band there was in Sweden at that time, and with a drummer who was only 9 years old when the band started this was probably right. The band participated in several competitions and were amongst the 4-5 most popular bands in Dalarna. They were even part of several morning gatherings in school with different artists. The band now meets every tenth year to play

Dancemusic A tipicle Swedish phenomenon.
In the early seventies Torbjörn started to play dancemusic with a band called Curt Börjes. He was the singer and also the saxophone-player in the band, and they made there first LP in 1973. The band members were from Mora and Malung.

In 1976 Torbjörn became a member of an other band called Scandinavians. A band working from Värmland and playing all over Scandinavia.

In 1979 Scandinavians were a part of EMA-Telstars artist offerings, where you also could find artists like ABBA and Thin Lizzy! This is what EMA-Telstar wrote about Scandinavians: "In Värmland there are many great dancebands. One of them is Scandinavians, a band loved both by young and old. There capability to play in many different musical styles is there strength. A band who puts effort in playing what the audience wants to hear."

After the years with Scandinavians, Torbjörn moved to Stockholm to study acting at a theatre-school called “Calle Flygare Teaterskola”. He also went to collage and became a music teacher. Immediately when he came to Stockholm he started singing Barbershop both in a chorus and a quartet. The chorus is called “Vocal Vikings” of which he later became director.
In the late eighties he came back to Malung as a teacher of music in compulsory school and upper secondary school. When he came back to Malung he stared playing in a band with his father-in-law. He also played on his own and with other friends and is still doing so. For the 10th summer in a row he has played the part of “Hans Gabrielsson” in an outdoor musical in Malungsfors called “Under samma himmel”.
A CD with the music from the musical is released.

Barbershop
In the eighties I lived in Stockholm and was active in barbershop-singing both quartet and chorus. I was in several versions of the quartet and the last one was called “Chordbusters”, that´s the one on the picture. From left to right on this picture Björn Wahl, Torbjörn Korssell, Bertil Nyström and Greger Nyström. I was also a part of “Vocal Vikings” (Stockholm Barbershop Chorus) and I was also one of their conductors. Both the quartet and the chorus had the opportunity to be out on several tours in Holland, England and Spain. Cordbusters even won a silver medal in the Nordic Barbershop singing competition.
